High Purity Water System Sterilization
Piping Air and Water Solutions sterilizes RO and DI water systems and high purity process piping for laboratories, biotech facilities, hospitals and medical buildings across California. We work as a subcontractor to mechanical and plumbing contractors on new installations, system modifications and loop recommissioning, and we provide the documentation inspectors, owners and QA teams need to sign off.
Who we work for
Laboratories
RO/DI loops serving lab analyzers, glass washers and research benches.
Biotech & Life Sciences
High purity process piping and DI distribution loops.
Hospitals & Medical Buildings
DI and RO systems serving sterile processing, lab and clinical equipment.
Process Piping
New high purity installations before they go into service.
Why high purity systems aren't chlorinated
Standard AWWA C651 chlorination is built for domestic water. It doesn't belong in RO and DI systems. Chlorine damages RO membranes and DI resin, and a DI system strips chlorine out along with everything else. High purity loops need a sterilant designed for them.
We use Minncare Cold Sterilant, a peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide sterilant made for RO and DI systems. We dose at a 1% concentration and hold for the manufacturer's full recommended contact time. Some providers cut the dose to 0.5% to shorten the job, and we don't.
How the process works
- Review the system. We go over the loop layout, points of use, pipe material and which equipment stays in or comes out of the loop, coordinating with your team and the equipment manufacturer.
- Introduce the sterilant. Minncare is injected at 1% and circulated to every point of use.
- Hold. The system holds for the manufacturer's full contact time.
- Rinse. The loop is rinsed until sterilant residual is no longer detectable at the points of use.
- Sample. Where required, samples go to our ELAP-certified lab partner for bacteriological and heterotrophic plate count (HPC) testing.
Turnover documentation
Every high purity job closes out with a package you can hand to the inspector, owner or QA team:
- Written sterilization procedure
- Chemical certificates of analysis and SDS
- Meter calibration certificates
- Signed field logs
- Lab reports from Eurofins Built Environment Testing West (ELAP #3094)
- Operator credentials
This package covers what most owner QA teams and GMP-style turnover packages ask for.
Credentials
Service area
The San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento and Northern California. We also take projects in Southern California, depending on the project.
Recent work
High purity process piping disinfection for the Buck Institute.
Common questions
Can you sterilize an RO or DI loop for a lab, biotech facility or hospital?
Yes. We sterilize RO and DI systems and high purity process piping using Minncare Cold Sterilant at 1%, with the manufacturer's full contact time, followed by rinse-down and lab sampling where required.
Do you provide compliance documentation?
Yes. Every job includes the written procedure, chemical COAs and SDS, calibration certificates, signed field logs, ELAP lab reports and operator credentials.
Why can't high purity systems be chlorinated like domestic water?
Chlorine damages RO membranes and DI resin, and DI systems remove chlorine anyway. High purity systems need a sterilant designed for them, such as Minncare.
Where do you work?
Across California, based in the Bay Area. We regularly work in Sacramento and Northern California, and we take Southern California projects depending on the project.
How do I get a quote?
Send us the system type (RO, DI or process loop), the approximate loop length or system volume, number of points of use, pipe material, the spec section or plans, and your schedule. We can usually turn a number around the same day.
Need a high purity system sterilized?
Send us your system details and spec section, and we'll turn a number around the same day.
